Saint Teresa of Jesus

Teresa was born in the year 1515 in Avila, Spain, and died in 1582. Doctor of the Church and author of many great spiritual works including:             Interior Castle, The Way of Perfection, and her famous Autobiography. Her feastday is October 15.

Saint John of the Cross

John was born in the year 1542 in Fontiveros, Spain, and died in 1591. Also a Doctor of the Church , he is the renowned mystic and author of Dark Night of the Soul, The Ascent of Mount Carmel, The Living Flame of Love, and The Spiritual Canticle. His feastday is December 14.

Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face

Therese, also known as the "Little Flower",  was born in Alencon, France in 1873. She entered the Carmelite Monastery in Lisieux at the age of 15, and died there at the age of  24 in 1897. Famous for her spiritual doctrine of the "Little Way", she is Carmel's third Doctor of the Church. Her feastday is October 1.

Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity

Elizabeth was born in 1880 in France, and died in the Carmel of Dijon at the age of 26 in the year 1906. She is best known for her devotion to the Divine Indwelling of the Most Holy Trinity. Her feastday is November 8.

Saint Teresa of the Andes

Juanita Fernandez Solar was born in Santiago, Chile in 1900. She died at the Carmel of Los Andes in the year 1920 after less than a year of religious life . She is a model saint for young people. Her feastday is July 13.

Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross

Edith Stein was born to a Jewish family in Breslau, Germany in the year 1891. A brilliant philosopher, she converted to Catholicism at the age of 31 and entered the Carmel of Cologne in 1933. She suffered martyrdom at the hand of the Nazis in 1942. Her feastday is August 9.

Saint Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart

Teresa Margaret was born in Italy in 1747 to the noble Redi family, and died in the year 1770 at the age of 23. Her body lies incorrupt at the Carmel in Arezzo, Italy. She was especially devoted to the concept "God is Love." Her feastday is September 1.

Saint Maravillas of Jesus

Maravillas, whose name means "marvelous", was born in Madrid, Spain in the year 1891. She entered Carmel in 1919 and founded 11 Carmelite monasteries faithful to the traditions of St. Teresa of Jesus in both Spain and India before her death in 1974. She is the most recently canonized Carmelite saint (2003). Her feastday is December 11.

Saint Maravillas of Jesus

This icon comes from the Carmelite Monastery of Nuns in Harissa, Lebanon. It is entitled "Transparency in Transmission". Saint Maravillas is shown holding a medallion of Our Lord Jesus Christ over her heart, revealing her intimate relationship with the Word Incarnate. Her right hand is lifted up as a sign of her intercession for all humanity. The Blessed Virgin and Child appear in the upper right, and the blue circle in the upper left symbolizes the divinity of God hidden in the night of faith.

Saint Maravillas of Jesus

Blessed Mary of Jesus Crucified

Mariam Baouardy was born in Galilee in 1846. She entered a Carmel in France and returned to the Holy Land to found a monastery in Bethlehem. She was helping to plan another foundation in Nazareth when she died at the Bethlehem Carmel in 1878. Her feastday is August 25.

Blessed Marie of the Incarnation

Known in the world as Barb Acarie, this French wife and mother labored untiringly to bring the Discalced Carmelites into France.  She entered the Carmel after the death of her husband and died in Pontoise in 1618. Her feastday is April 18.
