Saint Teresa Benedicta

Edith Stein was born to a Jewish family in Breslau, Germany in the year 1891. A brilliant philosopher, she converted to Catholicism at the age of 31 and entered the Carmel of Cologne in 1933 and was given the name Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. She suffered martyrdom at the hand of the Nazis in 1942. Her feastday is August 9.
